Wesleyan Readings (#4): The Holy Spirit

WORSHIP LEADER: We believe in the Holy Spirit who proceeds from the Father and the Son.[1]

CONGREGATION: He is of the same essential nature, majesty, and glory, as the Father and the Son, truly and eternally God.[2]

WORSHIP LEADER: The Holy Spirit is our Advocate, sent from the Father. He is the Spirit of truth who has come to testify of the Son. (John 15:26, 16:7)

CONGREGATION: For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:21)

WORSHIP LEADER: He is the Administrator of grace to all, and is particularly the effective Agent in conviction for sin, in regeneration, in sanctification, and in glorification.[3]

CONGREGATION: If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who lives in you (Rom. 8:11).

WORSHIP LEADER: He is ever present, assuring, preserving, guiding, and enabling the believer.[4]

CONGREGATION: For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God… and it is God who works in us to will and to act in order to fulfill His good purpose (Rom. 8:14, Phil. 2:13).

EVERYONE: May the God of hope fill (us) with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit (we) may abound in hope. (Rom. 15:13)
