Sacred Giver, Sacred Gift

A hymn on the Wesleyan view of atonement

Verse 1

Oh, Sacred Giver, Sacred Gift. Only begotten Son.

The Giver of Himself to all, as if all was but one.

Such forbearance and longsuffering, the likes of which You’ve shown.

A blessed extent proved only in atoning work alone.

Refrain:

Sacred Giver, Sacred Gift, Oh Matchless Sovereign One,

He that died yet ever lives! Hallelujah to the Son.

Verse 2

And the weight of our transgressions, all, secured Him to the tree.

Oh the worst of splinters surely were of my iniquity.

By His wounds and by His propitiation our Vict’ry heals.

So with Him we die, and Him we raise, to Zion we proceed.

Verse 3:

Perfect Redemption, Perfect Lamb, sufficient for all Earth,

Is Christ alone to sins atone, and make way for new birth.

All glory to our spotless Lamb who bled for even us.

Though not the whole world will believe, the whole world will be loved.
